Building a new speaker box for the damaged one

Image
The water damaged speaker cabinet was not recoverable. The damage was so extensive that touching it caused sawdust to fall out of it. It also warped the side panel badly.  The material used was a very cheap kind of chipboard and couldn't take the intake of water. The swelling made it irreparable. I measured each part of the cabinet and created a cutting plan to make it easier to duplicate the case. All the parts of the cabinet can be made on a single 4'x4' piece of 3/4" MDF. The 3/4" MDF was fairly inexpensive at around $60 for a 4x8' sheet. That's enough to make two of the bass cabinets (my eventual goal). Also worth looking into is an upgrade of the original 8" woofer in the Spectras. They are incredibly light and flimsy. The speaker was made with thin stamped steel, a small magnet and cheap paper cone material. Underwhelming. A newer higher quality driver will be used. I have found the small diameter of the woofer doesn't fit aesthetically wit...

Acoustat Spectra 11 found on Facebook Marketplace

I found a pair of Acoustat Spectra 11s on Facebook Marketplace for the princely sum of $50! They were not in good shape, as one had fairly severe water damage. A neighbor of the original owner was helping him to sell it and originally wanted $200 for them, but since they were damaged and not functioning, they posted them for $50 and that's what I paid. The seller said that they had been in storage in his garage for many years. I can confirm that there were lots of spider webs and dead bugs found on the speakers. Here are the pictures when I got them back home. At first glance, they seemed ok. The seller did not have the requisite power supplies so I had to order them from eBay. Thank goodness they were still available and cheap. The following pictures show the water damage to the one speaker. The side panel had swollen from sitting in water for a long time. It expanded all the way up to the top of the bass box! This speaker also wasn't functioning when I first plugged in the p...
